Editorial Policy
How our mortgage content is researched, sourced, and kept current.

Who writes and reviews our content
Our guides and calculators are produced by the Mortgagor.ca Editorial Team, a small group of writers and analysts who work only on Canadian personal finance and housing topics. We do not publish invented author personas or credentials. Where a topic requires regulated expertise, we point you to a licensed professional rather than claiming that expertise ourselves.
Primary sources only
We build our guides from primary and official sources: the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the Bank of Canada, the Canada Revenue Agency, the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions, Statistics Canada, canada.ca, and provincial regulators. We do not cite competitors as sources and we do not copy their text. Where we use a figure, we record its publisher, its source URL, and the date it was published.
How we handle figures that change
Rates, premiums, thresholds, and tax rates change often. Rather than print a number that quietly goes stale, we attach an as-of date and a link to the publisher for every benchmark figure, and we tell you to confirm the current figure. When no official figure exists, we link the official source instead of inventing a value.
Corrections and review
We review our guides and reference pages on a rolling schedule and whenever a rule or rate changes. If you believe something is wrong, email hello@mortgagor.ca with the page URL. Verified corrections are applied and the page’s date is updated. We never backdate content or bump a date without changing the substance.
Affiliate links and independence
Some links to third-party services are affiliate links, and we may earn a commission if you apply through them. That commission never changes what we write, which products we cover, or how we describe them. Affiliate links carry a rel="sponsored" attribute, a visible disclosure near the link, and a note that you are under no obligation to use them. We do not publish paid placements disguised as editorial content.
What we never do
We do not fabricate rates, fees, premiums, reviews, ratings, testimonials, author identities, or statistics. We do not use fake urgency, fake deadlines, or claims of guaranteed approval. We do not misrepresent an affiliate relationship. If we cannot source a claim, we do not make it.
